Baileytown School Cutout #2
Do you recognize anyone?

Mr. Walker has also provided us with a picture of one of the tombstones from Baileytown cemetery. He found this lying in weeds in the old cemetery fi eld. The very top of the stone is missing but the remaining inscription can be read as follows “Husb. of Mary L. Fuqua”. From this information and that of old records Mr. Walker was able to determine that the tombstone was that of James Fuqua. Surprisingly Mary L. Stewart Fuqua is the great grandmother of Mr. Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Fuqua were the parents of 6 children.

A few years after her husband’s death Mrs. Fuqua married Henry Kirk. They had one child, Allison Kirk. If you recall, in our fi rst issue the article “A Letter to a Friend” was written by Mrs. Carrie Kirk, wife of Allison Kirk. This is a wonderful coincidence for us. Mr. Walker has also provided us with a picture of Mrs. Mary L. Stewart Fuqua Kirk.
